When I first came to Australia I lived with Joan and George and Christine at Surf Side Three (see letters above walkway) Dundas St Coogee.
We were the front corner unit immediately under the walkway.
The garage entrance is behind the bush on the walkway level.
That little bit of ground near the front wall is where I stuck a plastic petunia and the lady next door leaned over fence and was watering the magnificent flower.
Dundas is a very steep street.

I think because of Janene' birthday we each room were delivered a complimentary bottle of Preece which we took down to Embers bar area and drank around the great log fire.

$19 each no seniors rate. This was either by scenic rail a most exciting ride or the more comfortable cable car. Deliver you down into the valley and you take the boardwalk around the bush. Presentation at mine area is great - they have DVD going. Next down a couple of steps and an infra red detects you and starts the furnace which pushed the air into the mine.

But August it was cold down there so wrap up well - I wore gloves and my thick Extreme Parka

Papadino's Katoomba Pizzeria and Family Restaurant We found it last time we were there and dined there both nights this time.

Papa gives a lot of cheek - a good system they give you the menu and when you decide you go to the window and order and pay ignoring Papa trying to confuse you.
The $6 pizza garlic bread is fantastic and enough for 4 as is the $10.50 garden salad and they brought 4 plates so we could share. It is BYO and no corkage. Papa pulled the cork on our white and then said the red would be $10 for him to open - of course it was a screw top.

Main courses arrive beautifully hot. Crepes with asparagus was wonderful - a lot of creamy sauce. The others all enjoyed theirs. Except we ordered the large $16 and a small $13 would have probably been enough.

Next night we had two $18 eggplant Parmigiana - came with flat bread and salad enough for 4 of us to share. Just could not finish the parmigiana - one order would have been enough. Rob had Spag Marinara and the mussels were great but the prawns were ordinary. Again it was too much. So ordering dishes to share there etc might be good.

Around 48 Katoomba St there are many competitive resaurants - including the Avalon the old cinema - many to choose from and that is only at top end of Street. Just down past the beautiful old Carrington Hotel is the famous Paragon coffee cafe. Had lunch there $10 roasted pumpkin soup with bread - wonderfully thick and warming. And great handmade chocolates as you leave - buy by the piece. Katoomba demands a visit to the

Final day Thursday and the forecast dropped from 8 degrees high to 5 and said Snow showers.
Woke up Bright Sun - breakfast and off to Echo Point to walk around top. Parked got out to pay meter $3.50 for one hour (minimum charge as well) just as I was picking the coins down came a Sleet shower - black clouds. Right back in car and off we go. Lucky as Rob had gone to the other meter and we nearly double paid.

So we took off to come back on Bell Line Rd and got to Blackheath and turned to
Blue Mountains Online - Govetts Leap
turned out Janene and Rob had not been there before and were stunned at the magificent view - the Leap waterfall itself and the whole canyon. It was only found in 1831 and Govett it seems recommended a railway be built but at 15,000 pounds it was considered too costly.

Off to Mount Tomah Botanic Garden
very pretty gardens with plants for growing in the cold. Had a lunch - hot scones and tea $11.50 each and an $19.50 antipasta plate for R&J but costly for what is was.

Then home via new bypass bridge at Windsor.

Just watching news and the weather sure came in at Katoomba - real snow - we left just in time

A great break - maybe hack 4 October for Leura garden festival. Getting to Leura is within 90 minutes

Grandma Joan is back at Daley's Point

Joan has recovered very well from the surgery a month ago now.

This Wednesday - they packed up at Carinya House
and Chris took Joan to Mt Wilga - for more Rehab
and home to The Cove

Joan was most pleased to see the flat was spick and span with new aircon etc

I'll have to go up and show how to work the DVD recorder etc but she is most pleased to be home

Chris stayed until Friday and Joan said she would miss her. Marjorie from upstairs is visiting for a card game this Saturday.

Looks like some future Rehab on walking would be good.

Grandma Joan - real good news

Saturday 15 Sep - Christine took Joan to the surgeon in Woy Woy.

Carinya House nurses were concerned about the foot. And another toe was looking bad which might mean more surgery. Anyhow the surgeon found that the discoloured toe was just bad skin which he pealed off and there was nice pink flesh underneath. He is very happy with the condition of everything.

So plan is for Joan to stay at Carinya for around 2 weeks more with some trips to
Mt Wilga - for more Rehab

Chris and Joan spent afternoon at The Cove making sure flat is ok for Joan's return. The Cove recently installed a new air conditioner and cleaned the windows etc. The big old wall air con is gone and a nice modern installed and they have painted the wall etc. The curtains are washed and it is looking good.

10 September 2007 Jarvis turned SIX. for the party on Sunday a man from Crocodile Encounters came with some lovely cuddly friends. Jarvis was absolutely wrapped up in all that happened

The Olive Python was lovely and friendly - just seemed to enjoy every one touching and wanting a neck cuddle

Jacqui made a great cake

Jarvis invited many friends from his new school whom we know from Grandparents Day at Epping School

Joan at Carinya House

Joan will be at Carinya House for a couple of weeks with Mt Wilga - Rehab

Carinya House is at 140 Glenhaven Road
But the entrance is off Mills Rd and then follow the signs for Carinya through the Villa homes.
A brand new complex only been open 3 weeks.

Joan is room 40 and has a phone - 98495149 hospital is 98495100 fax 98485103

Glenhaven Rd is off Old Northern Rd but there are no traffice lights
Ron thinks going via Round Corner is the easiest way to get there especially leaving as a right turn cpming back at Old Northern will be tricky and risky

Grandparents Day at Epping School

Jarvis's class had a grandparents day on 18 August - the kids sang and we had to take something for show and tell from our schooldays.

Jill took an old school satchel - Chris some crosspoint as it was stitched by Jacqui (Jarvis's mum). Ron took his 1949 dictionary a school prize. Many folk had old photos of themselves at the same age. And some Chinese had old money and some medals awarded by Mao. The kids asked some great questions about all these things.

Weekend away in October

End of October into November are some Major birthdays and Brendan has suggested a weekend up in the Hunter or Nelsons Bay. We hire some large house or somesuch and go to
Jazz in the Vines

It is 27 October and it sounds like a "swing" event not that I have heard of many of the artists.html

It is $45 and Children under 12 are free - do check out essentials.html

It seems depending on where we stay that there are special buses to the Jazz

We take a gourmet picnic to the Jazz although I think I read you can buy there.
I was all for taking my $3 clearskins but Emma very unkindly laughed....

How do people feel about a Jazz night?

Jacqui not keen on Jazz and 28th Josh goes to Germany and Jacqui may go with him. Plus there is Bucks night at Kiama

They are aok for weekend before and there is Opera on 20th see 4-D International

It is at Wyndham Estate and is more up market than the Jazz. A basic ticket is $68
There is a dinner deal at $255-290 however food fair is also at Wyndham - have a look at the site and the program etc

Maybe we JUST go up there week before - or even Nelson Bay - I have not been to Hunter in ages though

August/September 2006 Ron and Christine are visiting Vanuatu

Our church Cornerstone AOG Epping has built a church for the local people at Greenhill in the north of the island of Tanna in Vanuatu. The volcano is in the south of the island.

Leaving at end of August with some 30 other members of Cornerstone Ron and Christine will be at the opening on 27 August. The Prime Minister of Vanuatu will come for the opening. The church is now the largest building on the island.

As our Ruby 40th Anniversary happens to fall on 3 September we will stay a few more days at Port Vila on main island of Efate. And return 6 September.

August 2005 Christine was in the advance party preparing for the church to be built. One picture shows Chris with rocks collected to put in the foundation. Another has the initial columns of the church going up.

April 2006 Cornerstone sent more materials and a pick up truck and our Senior Pastor Laurie Hennessey returned for some finishing touches to the building.
